Toronto Star: Ontario must increase pay to injured workers
“In April, Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton announced that the government directed the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) to explore the possibility of increasing wage loss benefits to up to 90 per cent. Currently, most injured workers receive 85 per cent of their net lost wages if they are injured on the job and can’t return to work.
This isn’t so much an act of benevolence on the part of the government as it is correcting a historical wrong. If the government follows through with a legislative amendment codifying the wage rate increase, it would merely restore injured worker benefits to their previous levels.”
