“In recent years, the Ministry of Labour has given special grants to OHCOW to respond to clusters of disease among northern miners exposed to McIntyre Powder or General Electric workers in Peterborough. There has been no such commitment from the ministry to help workers once employed in Waterloo Region’s rubber industry. Instead, the ministry told rubber workers gathered in Kitchener that it was making prevention of further cases of occupational disease a top priority — pointing to a major review of work-related cancer currently underway.”
